Sony and Bandai Namco Entertainment officially announced Tekken 8 during Tuesday night's State of Play livestream. The highly anticipated title is launching on the PlayStation 5, and includes returning fan favorite characters and a flashy new map.

The trailer showed series favorites Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima clashing on a beach with thunder and lightning, demonic powers, and polished graphics that will make eyes water. The announcement was brief, but showcased returning mechanics from previous titles in the series.

Katsuhiro Harada, director and chief producer of the Tekken series, released a statement on PlayStation's blog page detailing the game and its upgraded visuals. Harada stated that the game was running in real-time rather than using pre-rendered cutscenes. The game is also targeting 60 frames per second for the gameplay, allowing for a smooth experience. The director also went into detail about the game's background atmosphere and how it translates into player immersion.

"Also, if you pay attention to the background during the battle, you can see dynamic waves and tornadoes, a huge tanker gradually breaking apart, storm rendering so realistic that you can feel the wind pressure, the density of the rain." Harada said in the statement.

Tekken 8 does not have a confirmed release date, and the studio has yet to reveal if the game will be a PlayStation exclusive.
