CD Projekt RED Announces Several New Witcher and Cyberpunk Projects

 

            CD Projekt RED announced several new titles to their flagship franchises The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 on Tuesday as part of a long term plan. The Polish developer announced several plans going forward, from changing their development ideology, to creating new merchandise. 

            The developer released a series of tweets by announcing several new projects under their two franchises. It was revealed that the sequel to the controversial Cyberpunk 2077 is officially in development, and it is currently under the name "Orion." Along with the sequel to the game, CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk has sold over 20 million copies across all platforms, making it one of the company's most successful releases to date. Players across the Internet have also revived the game's population thanks to the wildly successful anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners which is available exclusively on Netflix. 

        The Polish company also announced that their fan-favorite franchise The Witcher is also receiving several new products, including the next installation for the series, codenamed "Polaris." CD Projekt RED also introduced two new games by the names of "Sirius," a AAA multiplayer game, and "Caris Majoris," A new Witcher title that is being developed by a third-party studio. 

        The developer had one last announcement to share: that they are working on a brand new, in house IP codenamed "Hadar." The game is in the earliest stages of the development, meaning the game is in the foundations and concepting stage. No other information was given.

        Adam Kiciński, president and Joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, released a video explaining the team's long-term plans for the future, with many fans excited for what comes next. Kiciński was joined by Piotr Nielubowicz, CFO of the company, and Michał Nowakowski, the SVP of Business Development. 

        "Having learned our lessons from the Cyberpunk 2077 launch, we have pushed for changes," Nielubowicz said. "We have been introducing significant improvements that lay the groundwork for the company's future growth."

        Nielubowicz stated that the company is undergoing a major restructuring in order to create a healthier working environment for their employees. The CFO also stated that they will be partnering with Epic Games and use the latter's Unreal Engine 5 to development their new titles. 

        Nowakowski stated CD Projekt RED's plans to expand their franchises beyond the world of video games. This includes books, comic books, TV shows, films, merchandise, and mobile games. 

        "With millions of The Witcher and Cyberpunk fans looking for more content, we want to open up to external collaborations in development of new projects, on top of our internal efforts." Nowakowski said. "By doing so, we do not want to cut corners when it comes to quality and meeting gamers' expectations."
